An artwork for XDM (Slackware)

Provided for Slackware 12.1 or 12.2

Since the 3th June 2009, use 1.0.1 release

Would you choose XFCE, KDE, fluxbox or blackbox graphical session, halt or reboot your box when you use XDM ? It's now possible with this package.

Why this work ?

This is a logical suite to the previous articles published on this site : Give at_console right for D-bus with Slackware 12.1 and xdm and Give at_console right for D-bus with Slackware 12.2 and xdm. This artwork look like this :

What is provided ?

Some standard files with little modifications :

• Xsetup_0  : adapted for provide the « select tool » and the background with the slackware's logo
• xdm-config  : modified for starting the tools provided. Initialiaze the consoleGroups with the following groups : floppy, audio, video, cdrom, plugdev et power.
• Xresources  : define colors and fonts for XDM
• GiveConsole : starting before Xsession, it kills the « select tool »
• Xsession  : use the session selected and store it as the last session
• TakeConsole : remove all temporary files

This package provides also the image slackware.png and the executable xcrabs which is compiled by the slackbuild. xcrabs is a simple X11 windows with small specific dependencies : Xlib, Xft and Xpm. It presents buttons (« Shutdown » and « Reboot ») and the list of avaible session.

How to install it ?

Use this package only if you use the XDM modified for the support of consoleGroups and the « fake of pam_console » (see other articles on this site), it provides no more futures than KDM.

The build and the use of this package is very simple, don't forget the KISS...

At the first step, please download the following archive : crabs_xdm_theme-1.0.1.SlackBuild.tar.

# tar xf crabs_xdm_theme-1.0.1.SlackBuild.tar

# cd crabs_xdm_theme

# ./crabs_xdm_theme.SlackBuild

# installpkg /tmp/crabs_xdm_theme-1.0-1.i486-1.tgz

# cp /etc/X11/xdm/CRABS/xdm-config /etc/X11/xdm

# init 3

# chmod -x /usr/bin/gdm usr/bin/kdm

# init 4

• the Slackbuild works only if TMP environment variable is defined by the shell
• the default choice 'last' doesn't work, instead the default X-session choose during the installation was started

Use upgradetgz for upgrade instead of installpkg.
